Review: MyDog UK App

DSC_0061If you’re a dog owner then no doubt like me you’ve spent many hours searching for places that you can take your dog or accommodation that is dog friendly. What about trying to find a vet when you are away from home and your dog is barely able to walk (yep been there). Or when you’re worried about your dog and want some reliable health advice when your vet isn’t contactable?

Well as the saying goes “there’s an App for that” and now if you are a dog owner there actually is. The Kennel Club has helped develop the MyDog UK app to help you find all the information you might need as a dog owner. It’s free to download onto both iPhones and Android phones just have a search in their respective App stores.

There are a whole bunch of useful directories, I can see the locating a vet function coming in very useful if you need one when you aren’t at home or it’s an emergency and your vet is to far away. I also like being able to see easily which beaches are dog friendly as that’s one of our favourite trips at a weekend given that we can be at the sea in less than an hour from where we live.

The other feature I really like is the ability to register your dog as lost with a few clicks on your phone, assuming your dog is microchipped it will then be registered on the database so if he/she is found you can be reunited quickly. If you upgrade from the free version to the premium version you can also alert all the authorised agents within a 30 mile radius that your dog is lost. Surely a great use of technology?

20291_KC_NMM_Sticker__r1_CS4June is National Microchipping month, to celebrate this the Kennel Club is offering the chance to upgrade to the premium version for just £7.50. This is a one off fee for the lifetime of the pet, great value in my eyes. If you’re interested you can find out more information on the Pet Log website here http://www.mydoguk.com/

There has been a lot in the news recently about whether microchipping should be a legal requirement, in Northern Ireland it already is. Whether or not it can stop the problem of dangerous dogs I don’t know, but for me getting Bracken microchipped was a given. It gives me some peace of mind that if I did ever lose him I stand a good chance of him being identified and returned to me.

There’s a little video below about microchipping, if you haven’t had you dog chipped I challenge you to watch this and not want to run out and get it done!

This is a sponsored post, I was asked to write about the App and national microchipping month but all views expressed are my own.

  1. Hi there,

Thanks for your great review of the my dog uk app! We have tried to make it as useful as possible.

We should make just a couple of minor clarifications. Firstly, The Kennel Club and Petlog are partners of my dog uk, which has allowed us to bring you some the great features like the Lost Pet Alert, however the app has been created by Fetch Digital.
If you would like more information about registering your microchip with Petlog at http://www.petlog.co.uk

Also, the my dog uk app is free and includes the Petlog Lost Pet Alert feature. The only premium features are our fitdog and talkdog add-ons which you can find out more about on our website http://www.mydoguk.com

However, you will need to be a Petlog premium member to use the feature and send out the alert. Though you are right that it is on special offer during National Microchipping Month and costs just £7.50 for the life of your pet.

Thanks once again for your wonderful review and we hope to see you and your readers on the app and our social media pages soon!

    Best,

    Chris
