“She’s not going out wearing THAT”, I knew this moment would come, I just didn’t think it would be so soon. But alas these were the words uttered by the lady of the manor at the weekend after daddy had been responsible for choosing an outfit for Matilda to wear (and yes, no doubt I will be saying the very same words in 15 years or so….).
You see I am not a fashionable person and while I do generally look presentable and somewhat up with the times, going to a clothes shop and choosing anything beyond jeans and t shirts is a challenge. In fact more often than not I send the lady of the manor to choose clothes for me.
Dressing Matilda so far has been pretty easy; it was a case of simply choosing which baby grow to put her in. But now she has proper clothes; skirts, trousers, dresses, tights the list goes on. I look into her draws and my mind just goes blank, which of these items really go together? I’ll take an outfit through to the lady of the manor and ask what she thinks, 9 times out of 10 I get ‘the look’ the one that says are you stupid? Are you colour blind? What can possibly make you think that those items go together? I retreat quickly back to the Matilda’s room in search of a safer choice.
This is all well and good at the moment, but in January I’ll start having some weekends on my own when the lady of the manor goes back to work. Then what? Do I get her to leave outfits out for me? Or perhaps I amuse myself by texting her photos of Matilda wearing the worst possible outfit I can put together? Even better if the photo is in a public place….

This sounds like my reaction to my partner getting the boys dressed, I don’t mind if I’m not around but I won’t go out in public with them like it!

It’s not intentional but girls clothing just baffles me 🙂 maybe easier if we have a boy next?

You are not alone. My hubby regularly makes quite spectacular outfit choices when left alone with the boys. So much so that they have regular ‘pj days’ if they are having a day indoors and I’m not around to dress them.

yep, I think we may go with PJ days also. Perhaps there is a gap in the market here for a service to help men dress their kids?

Again mate – we are living parallel lives!!
I vote for the second option, send photos when there’s nothing she can do 🙂

I think that option could keep me amused for some time 🙂

Papasaurus gets this problem – he grabs any clothes for Queen Scamp form the wardrobe and wangs her in them. Usually some summer shorts teamed with a wooly jumper.
I’m not a diva or fashionista but sometimes one just has to say NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

In my case the noooo comes quite often 🙂 Tough being a dad don’t you know?

I still have that problem with Paddy!- and my solution is that I leave the clothes out every time as it”s too embarassing, Rhys’ teachers know if he has dressed him or me!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think it must be a man thing that you lot can’t be bothered or are not able to co-ordinate! I remember our dad doing the same!
