Meme – Ten I’s

Meme

Corinne aka Mother Scuffer appears to have something for people called Ben seeing as she’s only tagged two people in this meme and they’re both called Ben. But whatever her fetish she is one of my favourite bloggers so I will oblige. Besides seems a pretty simple concept, I just answer the ten I’s (it does exactly what it says on the tin).

I can…. count to 10 without using my fingers or toes
I can’t…. stand watching people shave, freaks. me. out
I want…. a detached house and a Discovery and another dog and not to work and some rare breed pigs and my own fishing lake and a tractor mower and a home cinema. Not much really.
I wish…. every day was Sunday
I would like…. my hair to grow back
I don’t want…. this party to end
I wish I could…. give it all up and start a small holding
I hope…. I can make my kids proud of me
I love…. the feeling of freshly washed sheets
I am…. a lover not a fighter
It would of course be wrong of me not to share this meme love with a few other bloggers so here goes:
Sarah – Hello Wall
Sunniva – Kitchen Mechanic

Question time

Too fine gents Mr P and Lewis have tagged me in a meme, it’s been a pretty long time since I’ve been tagged in one of these so I’m actually going to get involved. Revolutionary I know. But it’s a simple, straightforward one for once so happy to oblige.

Here are some facts about me that I’m sure you never wanted to know.

Where do you do most of your writing/blogging?

At work so shhhhh, when I was commuting by train or bus I’d do my writing there (which actually seems to be the norm amongst dad bloggers). Now I’m driving I tend to go to the coffee shop in the office a couple of lunch times a week and get things written.

What books were your childhood favourites?

Earliest books I can remember being obsessed with were Spot ones, I even had a Spot duvet cover. Later on it would have been the Asterix and Tintin books, I read every single one of them, ticking them off on the back cover as I went.

Have you ever googled yourself and been surprised at what you found?

Yes but then I remembered that I had actually been a porn star as a teenager.

What is your favourite time of day and why?

Easy, dawn, just love it. The silent, stillness is magical. Love the feeling of being the only one up and outside. Even better if it involves an early morning run or fishing trip.

Who would play you in a movie of your life?

Either Daniel Craig from when he was in Layer Cake or Sean Bean, you know blonde and rugged just like me.

One material possession I could not live without?

My running shoes, think I’d go insane without them. A laptop would be a close second though, would miss using the internet. A phone I could take or leave though, don’t think it would bother me that much.

Have you ever been naked in public?

Yup, on a number of occasions. One of the side effects of playing rugby. You know play a game, drink a few beers, sing a song, get naked. Pretty standard Saturday or Sunday.

What/who/where was your first proper kiss?

That would be with a girl called Claire age 13 in a park in the town where I grew up. Proper tongues and everything.

I’m sure your lives are now much more complete after reading that. I tag the following:

Mama Owl

Mushy Pea

Motherhood Journeys

The great gig meme in the sky

A new meme has been created by Musodad and the fine gentleman that is Slightly Suburban dad has tagged me in it. For once I think this is actually quite an interesting meme as it focuses on gigs we’ve been to.

So here’s the deal, I have to list my first/worst/best/last/dream gigs and then add them to the Spotify playlist (or tweet mMsodad to add them). Well I haven’t exactly been prolific in attending gigs but I have been to a few so here goes:

First gig

This was to see the excellent Ocean Colour Scene in Milton Keynes. Me and 5 mates from school all headed up there to see a band that we were truly obsessed with. We arrived early, bought some band merchandise and took up position right in front of the stage. The band didn’t disappoint, they were in their prime and delivered all the favourites plus a couple of great covers including Day Tripper.

Track added – Ocean Colour Scene / The Riverboat song

Worst gig

Tough this one, I haven’t been to loads of gigs and most have been pretty good. But if I had to pick it would be Bombay Bicycle Club in Oxford a couple of years ago. Good band but I went with my then 17 year old brother and his mates. I was the only one able to drink and felt properly old and out of touch with what was fashionable. So for that reason alone I’m picking it as worst gig

Track added – Bombay Bicycle Club / Always like this

Best gig

This is a close one between Kings of Leon at the Bristol Academy before they made it big and Stereophonics at Colston Hall in Bristol. Both were small gigs and bands that truly rocked. But I think Stereophonics just pip it. It was a last minute gig announced 2 weeks before to give them a warm up before they hit the festivals. The lady of the manor and I are big fans so snapped up the tickets and arrived early. We got into position 3 people from the front giving her a great view of Kelly Jones…. It was incredible seeing them in a small venue and the noise was incredible.

Track added – Stereophonics / A thousand trees

Last gig

I think the last gig I went to was the Bombay Bicycle Club one, so as I’ve written about that already I’m going to cheat and pick the gig before that. Which was The Black Keys at the Firkin in Bristol. They really weren’t known that well here at that point and that venue is truly tiny, maybe 300 people at most. It’s amazing the noise 2 guys with a drum kit and a guitar can make but they were great. I kind of forgot about them since then but in the last couple of months have become a bit obsessed with their new album and one song in particular which is my pick.

Track added – The Black Keys / Gold on your ceiling

Dream gig

Hmmm so many options, I’d have loved to see Led Zeppelin in their prime or Oasis in the early 90’s but I think my dream gig would be Frank Sinatra. Such a dude, what a track listing, amazing. Enough said.

Track added – Frank Sinatra / Come fly with me

So there you have it, what do you think? It would of course be wrong for me not to tag a few people. I hope the following will share their gig history.
